Overview

Boardwalk Lodge has a mix of small rooms, studios and self catering timber chalets, all situated just up the steep hill that sits behind the main area of Wilderness.

Opened in 1999, the architecture of the units blends in with the beautiful natural surroundings.  Accommodation at Boardwalk Lodge is very reasonably priced, especially given the exceptional view.

Boardwalk Lodge Night View

Location

The chalets of Boardwalk Lodge are visible from most of the main part of Wilderness, thanks to their location high on the hillside.  The different chalets are spaced well apart, and hence cover quite a large area of the hillside.  The view is over central Wilderness, the lagoon and the sea.

Despite being up a steep hill, the main area of Wilderness is still close.  From the reception area (close to the individual rooms and studio suites) it is just over a 5 minute walk to the main restaurants and under a 15 minute walk to the beach (or a couple of minutes drive).  Allow an extra few minutes for the walk back up the hill.

Some of the self-catering chalets are a fairly significant walk from the reception, and also from the car park.  All units have some steps to get to, with 150 steps to get to the furthest chalet.  Once you are there, the view is worth it!

Accommodation Options

There are 4 rooms for 2 people, styled in a modern Afro-contemporary style.  One of them has a double bed and the other 3 have twin beds.  The 2 studios are similarly styled and both have a double bed, with one also having a sleeper couch suitable for children.

All rooms and studios have a fridge including a minibar and a small balcony with table and chairs.  The suites have a lounge area which also contains a small kitchenette including an oven.  One of the studios has a gas braai (BBQ) on the balcony.  The residents of the other studio and rooms have access to use the Weber braai situated next to the pool (which is close to all of the rooms and studios).

The rooms and studios all have an en-suite bathroom which includes a separate bath and shower.  They also have a balcony and a heating/air-conditioning unit.

All wooden chalets are styled in a comfortable contemporary fashion.  They all have a lounge with a fully equipped kitchen and a large balcony with a gas braai.  The balconies have chairs and a table and sun loungers.  All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with a bath and separate shower.

There are 2 very private one bedroom chalets, high up on the slopes (140-150 steps), each with a double bed.  They both have a gas fire in the lounge.

The 3 standard two bedroom chalets are at varying heights (8, 50 or 130 steps) and each have lounge areas on 2 levels.  They have a mix of double and twin bedrooms (each chalet is different), and also have sleeper couches hence accommodate up to 6 people.  They also have a gas fire in the lounge.

The 2 luxury two bedroom chalets are similar to the standard ones, also sleeping 4-6, but have more luxurious decor.  There is no gas fire, but there are heaters and extra blankets in the bedrooms.  They are 10 and 30 steps up the hillside.

All rooms, studios and chalets have selected satellite (DSTV) channels and a safe.

Getting There

Take the main Wilderness turn off the N2, next to the Caltex garage.  Follow the road round to the right through the heart of Wilderness village, then round to the left past the Wilderness Hotel.  At the roundabout turn left, then take the second right onto Constantia Drive.  In less than 100m you will see the entrance to Boardwalk Lodge on the right.  Continue up the narrow road until you reach the parking for reception.

Access controlled parking is available for guests at no extra cost.  As mentioned above, some of the chalets are still a significant walk from the parking area.  A free porter service is available for carrying baggage to the chalets.
