Overview

Reflections Eco Reserve is a completely unique, environmentally friendly place to stay situated out in the “wilderness of Wilderness“.  There are 4 self catering wooden chalets, and 2 “luxurious” permanent tents.  Each of them are located far away from each other, giving a feeling of isolation and privacy.

Owners Tim and Angelique have owned the 28 hectare site for over 10 years, initially clearing a pine plantation and planting hundreds of indigenous trees.  All aspects of the reserve have been designed to be completely eco-friendly. Electricity is provided by wind and solar power (plus a back-up generator if required).

Location

Reflections Eco Reserve is completely isolated on the edge of the Rondevlei lake, approximately halfway in between the main area of Wilderness (with shops and restaurants) to the west, and the town of Sedgefield to the east.  From the reserve it’s approximately a 15 minute drive to the nearest beach and a 20 minute drive to Wilderness town.

Views from each chalet or tent are purely of nature – the surrounding vegetation, with views of Rondevlei from some of the chalets and tents.

A 4×4 vehicle is not essential to stay at the reserve, but you should be aware that travelling in a vehicle with very low clearance above the ground (e.g. a sports car) may not be suitable.  Accessing each chalet does involve walking up a couple of steps onto the deck – once inside, only the small loft room is upstairs.

Accommodation Options

There are 4 wooden self-catering chalets, each sleeping a maximum of 4 adults and 2 children.  There are also 2 permanent tents for “glamping” that are each suitable for 2 people.

The chalets each have 1 double bedroom and 2 twin bedrooms (one of which is the loft room).  There is an open-plan lounge and fully equipped kitchen with an oven, hob and fridge/freezer.  Each chalet has a bathroom with both a bath and a shower, plus a separate toilet and an outside shower.

The chalets have a large outside decking area with furniture.  Each chalet has its own garden area with cut grass and a braai area.  There is a fireplace inside each chalet.  Note that as Reflections Eco Reserve is a place to get away from it all, the chalets do not have a TV.

One of the two tents has a double bed and the other has twin beds.  Each tent has a small hob, a fridge, an outside decking area and braai pit.  There is also a toilet, basin and shower inside the tent, with a unique (but private) outside view.

Meals

All accommodation is self-catering.  A continental breakfast served on your own private deck is available by advance request (at an additional cost).

There are plenty of restaurants in the main area of Wilderness, or alternatively in Sedgefield or at Timberlake Organic Village.  All of these places are in the region of 15-20 minutes drive from the reserve.

Getting There

If travelling from George, continue on the N2 through Wilderness, past Kleinkrantz, and after another 9km (6 miles), take the left turn signposted Swartvlei.

If coming from Knysna, continue on the N2 through Sedgefield, and about 2km (1 mile) after crossing the lagoon, take the right turn signposted Swartvlei.

After taking the Swartvlei turn, the road will soon become a dirt road.  Continue for around 5km (3 miles) and you will see a sign saying Reflections Eco-Reserve (and Eagles Call) to the right.  Take the turn, then after a short drive you will come to the entrance to Reflections on the right.
