Wilderness Backpackers

Wilderness is an excellent location for backpackers to stay. There are so many things to do, and it is also a great place from which to explore the larger Garden Route area of South Africa. Furthermore, it is on the route of the popular Baz Bus transport which runs from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth (and in the opposite direction too).

There are 3 different places for backpackers in Wilderness. We would specifically recommend Wilderness Beach House Backpackers, situated almost on the beach with great ocean views. You can see it in the centre of the photo below, slightly up the hill.

The are two other options for backpackers accommodation in Wilderness.

The first is Fairy Knowe Backpackers, situated on the edge of the National Park. Whilst the beach is not as quickly accessible from this location, hiking trails and other activities such as canoeing are right on the doorstep. There is a wide range of accommodation, from private rooms with en-suite bathrooms to dorms and areas for camping. Fairy Knowe also has a large entertainment area with bar, and large lawns where ball sports can be played.

The other alternative is Wild Farm Backpackers, which is situated up in the “Heights” above Wilderness. It offers stunning views over the ocean, especially at sunset. Wild Farm also offers a range of different accommodation types along with a bar. Burgers and pizzas are served in the evenings.

You may also want to consider self-catering accommodation or guest houses in Wilderness, if your budget stretches a bit further than the places mentioned here. There is a huge selection to choose from.
